After turning 18, Kenna Sloan has escaped from the abusive folds of her household and started her life over by living at her best friend’s house and finding herself a job. When she makes plans to meet up with her best friend, she meets Donovan Alexander, a 22 year old cop who has the look of a warrior in her eyes. Not really wanting a serious relationship, she goes into this experience with closed doors and walls not really wanting to open up the things that haunted every core of her body and every day of her life. However, as Donovan and Kenna continue to get to know each other, things start to heat up and Kenna isn’t so sure if she’s ready for what’s unfolding between her and Donovan because letting him in means baring all of the ghosts which continue to surround her which might send him running. Donovan though has some skeletons in his own closet. As this romance progresses, they start to fall even harder for each other and soon, it’s almost unbearable to resist everything about each other.

I thought this book was absolutely beautiful. It was such an eye-opener to read about a relationship between two people that started off at a good pace. This story was great in the way that the two people started off as friends and progressed their relationship into something more. Also, both sides were so understanding to situtations which would normally cause one side to become furious with the other causing both of them to fight with each other; however, both Donovan and Kenna were so understanding and patient with one another even though they had secrets that they were keeping from one another. Their relationship never really wavered and continued to be solid throughout the story which I thoroughly enjoyed. I really liked Kenna because although she’s soft when it comes to certain things, she’s also sassy and knows how to defend herself when necessary. Donovan is a great protector to people and to Kenna; he doesn’t allow her to bring herself down and wants to make her feel special and wanted, something she never really got before. Also, he never pushed her into anything and wanted to wait until she was ready to fully open herself up to him and commit her whole heart and soul and that was just amazing because he was so great in that aspect. All in all, I thought this book was a real eye-opener to different types of relationships that could occur between two people and I enjoyed it very much.
